It seems my membership type doesn't allow me to post in the Western Australian sub-forum.

I have pictures from the event. Sorry no video.
Should I download all my pictures from this event here,
or send to a member via PM so someone can select good photos?

I learned a lot about my Subaru and offroading in sand.
Members attending were nice enough to start fixing my car without me even asking.

My roobar now sits straight
and the top of the bar is now 2" above the bonnet,
instead of maybe 1/4" above the bonnet
which actually improved my view of the road on the way back
as less of the peripheral beam was just being reflected off my roobar.
Both high and low beam view improved.

I thought my clutch cable was fraying,
but RSR 555 pointed out that it's just my hill holder spring,
showed that it was bent and actually fixed it right there,
so no creaking springy noise when I release the clutch.

I'm probably still carrying 1-2kg of sand under my car and under my bonnet.
Sand went everywhere, lol... even into the recession for the spare tire.

Seeing Dan's L Series gave me some ideas too.

My tachometer from eBay has just arrived.
it's a fair size (3 3/4" + deepish chrome housing) and I'm wondering where to install it

Hmmm, I'll look into imageshack

FTMFW? I haven't heard that one before.


I was thinking I might be able to fit it above the steering column
in between the speedo and the 4Hi/Lo indicator.
My speedo reads to 200 km/h... I doubt I'll ever use that.
As it is, I think I can fit it so it doesn't obscure speed up to 120 km/h
and then after that I could just read the tach for whatever gear I'm in
should I happen to pass 120km/h
It is just short enough and small enough in diameter
that if I do some careful cutting of the instrument cluster panel
then I could still have full view of my turn signals, 4wd indicator and odometers.
Otherwise there is a large visual gap between the speedo and the 4wd indicator.
Thoughts?

I had a very long day at work today, so maybe tomorrow for pictures.

Cools pics. I had my clutch go in my Forester along that beach back in April. Had to be towed back to that car park in the 4th picture there.

Ive had about 4x that amount of sand in my enigne bay so im sure it won't hurt. Nice looking red L by the way!

I'm thinking I might want to invest in a good shop-vac.

You can see how I installed the flexi-flares.
I thought full-fender was better, plus the kit came with 3m.
I'll be doing the same to the rear, tying it into the mudflaps to make them effectively bigger.

I wanted a group event but a heap of people pulled out and I ended up just going with a few people. I also went to the Mundaring Powerlines the day before with no lift and collapsted rear self leveling struts

But I got my new clutch done in 24hours then had my lift kit, new springs and struts put in so the trip was worth the clucth going.

I really like the fender flares, thinking about doing the same to my Foz but I don't know if it will look out of place

Its worth having all the recovery gear just incase you do needed it. I bought a pair of Maxtrax a month ago and haven't used them properly but did get myself into a situation on purpose to test them and they are great.
