ever run EA82 low on oil?

How far'd you go as in oil level?
Thinking about two litres left lfters start to bleed dry?

Low oil level with lifters bleeding dry means the oil pump is starving and has pumping aerated oil from lack of supply.
The oil temp goes up from lack of volume to dissipate heat to the sump and surrounding air. Also shortens the oils' life if less volume circulates more frequently.
The oil volume is also part the engines' cooling system.
Something to keep in mind when diagnosing overheating engines.

Have always thought same on low oil and overheating, learned from theory, sales pitch on engine temp monitors yet my ageing machine shop guy who i respect heaps says no overheating will show on gauge from low oil- bearings just seize then you get the heat and smoke
Had a new engine run low on oil due to oil presure switches flogging out, noisy lifters, low power to stalling and motor still done more than 350,000km. Hoping this one same good news

Short answer to your initial question: yep.
Off the dip stick - got very loud lifter tick until it was topped up, then I got the usual moderate lifter tick
The EJ has sorted that out though

Can say EA82Ts tend to run a bit warmer when oil level gets down a bit . Its probably due to a just adequate cooling systems for Ls in Australia . After water level its the next and easiest thing to check on a warmish EA82 .
Really should be checking water and oil levels often in these critters .
EA82 is Latin for boiluskaputusfrustratus .
