Old news to some, but was given a copy of Overlander 4WD mag Aug 2000 when a Foz 2.0 NA, a Jackuparoo and a silver RX made the trip. It was mainly a Forester reviewbut the L Series got a mention or two, mainly that the Forester got better fuel consumption 11 litres per 100km, Jack - 19 ! and did not suffer overheating like the RX did

Foz did it on one tank, with only a skid plate as the only non standard part of the car

All three vehicles coped well with the challenging sand and only a few dunes required a second attempt.

Took three days between 9am and 4.30 pm

The RX is silver, said that, sits a little higher than usual, has a red bullbar, red roof basket, red front rim - anyone in here?

these days the simpson is a bit more gnarly to cross.
we are doing it in a few months with a mate in out slightly bigger 4x4s, and looking foreward to it

The Silver Foz was owned by Justine and (I think) David from the SA Subie club.

Justine wrote the article, and from memory was an Ag Science student in her final year. Her Foz was one of the first few in the club, back when L-Series and MYs were the norm.

The RX was owned by Darren, former president of the same club. He was one the first to modify and and lift a RX sedan - back when they worth >$10,000.

Darren moved to Melbourne, not sure where Justine ended up.

That's the article, written by Justine. Thought someone would know them, even if it was a while ago. Didn't think to add that two of three had SA plates visible.

526 km, average speed 15 - 60 kph depending on track conditions. They took two weeks worth of food, 60l spare fuel, UHF and HF radios.

The SA Dsert Park Pass was $60 and included all maps and info

Just tried googling her name and wow google is great - enter Justines name and google goes find Justine Drew Bieber. Google must be so freakin' sick of searches on Justin just gives up!! Overheard a few mums discussing what their daughters came up with on google when they searched 'cute boys' - figure that when the authorities turn up they will see the funny side too

you can tell us how hard it was when you get back. not before lol

plenty of guys from the subaru 4x4 club of QLD have crossed the simpson. One guy does a trip out there every year in his forester. has been doing so for ages.

Agree. I think one of the locals still does it in his old kingswood that's running bigger tyres and maybe a tiny bit of lift...

I can't wait to get out there, hopefully next year!

hahaha not trying to make myself feel better, few guys did it 2 months ago, and the vids and pics looked interested. they whent through just as a storm went through, so all the salt pans that had water upto the bonnet for hundreds of metres at a time makes me feel better knowing my cars a bit taller:P

we doing a full north west trip so its just one stop out of many we are doing.
