Brumby Heater

I have a 89 Brumby and found the heater dial doesn't shut off the valve. I've still got warm air coming through the car even with the heater dial reading off. Do I need to take out the dash or is there another way I can get at the problem?

The cable that controls the heater has probably popped out of the clip that secures it behind the dial. I have had this happen and it is a PITA.
It might help if you replace the heater tap to if it is a bit stiff!
You should be able to take the front panel off to get to the cable.

And if you need to get to the other end of the cable I remember accessing it by removing the glovebox, there's a lever in there that activates a flap in the heater box as well as moves another cable for the tap to allow the hot coolant into the heater core.

otherwise you may find that the heater tap broke and was bypassed completely or that the vacuum line for the heater cool air flap has come apart causing the switch to do nothing

Thanks guys for the info.
I took out the glove box, console, but cannot get the front panel off the heater/fan dials. I can feel underneath and but cannot see any cables or valves. The heater dial turns onto full heat but when you turn the dial to off, it doesn't shut the valve off completely allowing warm air constantly into the cabin. Great in winter but in Perth we don't get real cold.

I had trouble getting that front panel off my wagon, took me ages to find but there are some hidden screws somewhere. If only I could remember off the top of my head! Pretty sure there are two underneath at the bottom of the panel, maybe a couple behind the control knobs themselves? Wish I could remember for you

Tozzy, when you remove the dials, you will need to undo the nuts holding them onto the plastic fascia. IIRC, there are only 2 screws on the bottom holding them on - plus the 2 larger nuts on the fan and heater control. The controls are firmly secured to the sheet metal behind the fascia and won't spin as you undo the nut. Once the plastic fascia is off, It becomes pretty obvious which screws to undo.
I attached some photo's of mine when i had it out. The picture of the heater unit shows the cable that runs to the heater knob, on the other side of the pivot is the cable that runs through to the engine bay.
You might be better off cutting in a ball valve in the line in the engine bay and switching it on in winter and off in summer?
