'88 Turbo Vortex with 5 stud hubs
'88 Turbo Vortex with 5 stud hubs
On ebay today a 1988 turbo Vortex standard with 5 stud hubs was sold.
I thought only the XT6 left the factory with these?
Anyone seen one before?

Never seen the XT4 with 5 stud but it may have been converted using XT6 stuff.. I remember about 10 years ago bringing lots of XT6 stuff from Japan. I'm sure it happened all over Aus. To my memory too, that front bumper bar and side indicators are imports also.

Bigger brakes than XT4s yes but exactly the same as Aussie delivered Gen1 Liberty they use the same hub as the EJ series cars.. they even had the awesomely great front air struts that came in the Gen1 Ser1 AWD D/R Liberty.

The ones on the Ebay car are the genuine XT6 wheels.steptoe wrote:So, if this car featured on ebay has had a hub conversion to five stud what are the mags from?
Look so much like these don't they ?
The ones on this XT Turbo are genuine 4 stud that were optional when new. Very pricey so you don't see many around.

Um , no XT6 brakes are unique to that breed all round well USDM ones anyway .
What Subaru used was a knuckle casting similar to but not exactly the same as first generation Libs . The vertical section is wider and I believe there is some difference in the inner front hub bearing and or it grease seal .
Probably the most significant difference is the wide caliper mounting bolt holes because Subaru lifted the L Series handbrake caliper and used them on XT6s . The caliper is actuallly the only comon assembly in the front of an XT6 . Actually the DOJ is RX L Series too .
If you look up XT6 front disc dimensions I believe they are slightly narrower and fractionally larger diameter than 1st gen Lib .
If you are going to do 5 stud conversions to XT4/L Series you really need to use all XT6 bits or all Lib/Imp bits .
If you could get them XT6 bits are the easiest because a Vortex is basically a wider two door L Series with an identity crisis and a sweet on Buck Rogers ...
