Brumby Heater Unit

Hi, my Brumby has been sitting around for 12 months with no coolant. I'm assuming that this hasn't done any favours for the heater unit so i though i would pop it out and get it looked at by a radiator shop. (I assume it's rusted up) Does anyone know if the heat exchanger core can be replaced - or the best way to go about it? Is it a generic part? Can it be brazed out and replaced?

I've got the Gregory's manual - its says the steering wheel and column need to come out. Really? I've taken to the "just undo every screw you can see approach" and abandoned the manual - it's very hard to figure out what they're talking about. Cheers, Ron.

Edit: Found this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Subaru-Brumby-L- ... 1e62d0de12 . I'll take mine out and see if it looks the same. Is that a good deal?

Personally I'd just flush it out while it's still in the car (saves pulling the dash out) by just running a hose back and forth between the 2 rubber heater hoses in the engine bay. My belief is.. if it's not broken why f**k with it :) I'd flush out then run the car and only if it leaks.. the fix it. Just my opinion

Same as what Paul has said - I'm pretty sure the brumby heater exchange is an all copper/brass unit unlike the L series one that has plastic end tanks...

All the best with it!

Cheers
