Hi guys,
I apologise in advance if I am grilled for advertising my own business here but I would love it to be benefiting guys like yourselves.
I have been working for the last six months to get this site up and running that I am hoping will eventually allow car enthusiasts like ourselves to find specialists to help out on our automotive projects.
It is called MyGarage Australia (
http://www.mygarageaustralia.com.au) and is QLD based at the moment but the plan is that if it works here there is nothing stopping it being nation wide.
The site is really based on having good quality businesses that are true specialists in there chosen fields.
So if anyone has any mechanics, parts suppliers, upholsterers, auto electricians etc that they think should be on the site a recommendation would be greatly appreciated so that I can email and get in contact with them.
Also any thoughts on how the site works or if it would be any use to you would be greatly appreciated as I respect the opinions of alot of guys on this forum.
Once again apologies for the plug
Cheers James

Obviously a lot work has gone into this. Looks good.
I have a few Qs / observations though
1. How does this differ from Hotfrog and those annoying shopping sites that lure you with your search result, and have no actual useful results? Or when they do produce a hit, you the consumer can (a) rate them, and (b) leave a review? Often that is what I look at.
2. Are you vouching for these guys being 'enthusiasts' as opposed to just 'run of the mill'? There are a lot of variable businesses out there, how will you screen and monitor any rouges? What is the fallback (if any) on your reputation?
3. Why don't the hyperlinks for the businesses on there - eg the Merc dealer?
All the best, I hope you take this as well intended feedback and not having go at your hard work.

Hi Sven,
Thank you very much for your feedback, both the positive and negative is more than useful to me and I appreciate the time you took to have a look.
I guess it is easier to answer question by question
1. My aim is for the website to always be uncluttered from over advertising and completely free (both of any sign ups or spam advertising as well as free of any cost) The aim is rather than a yellow pages or true local etc businesses will actually list exactly what they specialise in, their experience and as much info as possible not just a name and number.
The plan is also to very soon have a forum joined to the site to allow people to discuss and comment on their experiences with businesses as well as general car talk. This will give people an outlet to express either their support or concerns with businesses as you are right there is a lot of "run of the mill" shops out there and I would like to have truly helpful and honest businesses on the site.
2. I have sort of covered two but that is a very crucial and fundamental idea to the whole site. This site was created to help essentially take "word of mouth" and turn it into a concise user friendly form. It is not going to be a money making machine however I would be more happy if it was a useful source for car enthusiasts to access local specialists.
I have basically put the work in as I am 19 and in the last couple of years completed a fair bit of work on an 1989 BMW and now the brumby. I did not know any contacts in Brisbane and found it very hard to find specialists I could trust and learn from. I have luckily made many friendly contacts and thus thought I could make the process easier for others in the same position by listing businesses and allowing peer reviews etc
3. You are completely correct (must have overlooked it amongst all the work

). I will definitely work quickly to rectify that one.
Again thank you for taking the time to provide some constructive criticism. As you can tell I am quite passionate about it and am always enthusiastic to hear others thoughts.

19! You are far more productive than I at that age!
With the forum though, would suggest it require monitoring and moderating...you know how the interwebs can be.
For example, a customer gets into a slinging match with a repairer, and a true case of slander develops - are you step back and say you just the medium (like ebay do to a point)?
Anyways, again all the best with it.

haha thanks for that, like a true 19 yr old I do have my ways of wasting time too
and as for the forum yes I have a few people lined up to be moderators and in the search for more as I would ideally like to have people from all different knowledge bases providing in the forum. My knowledge is mainly in BMW's and the odd holden bits. (slowly building up the subie knowledge thanks to guys on here). So I always have guys lined up that have knowledge of ricers (oops I mean imported cars) as well as a few other styles.
But yes I definitely do not want to promote a mud slinging match between customer and business....It is just not a good way to run things
