i hav a 1995 subaru with ej20, iv got a single turboback 3 inch high exhaust with flowcat, front mount intercooler with 2 1/2 inch pipe work, and thinking about fitting an aftermarket ecu, how much hp can i exspect from a tune, these are a 160kw engine factory and i dynoed it standed at 158awhp, should i crack i 200awhp with my mods and tune?

My ute (97 ej20) hit 211kw atw (287awhp) with similar mods plus bigger turbo and injectors at 18psi. So I think 200awhp should not be a problem depending on how much boost you run.

They use a PWM controlled 2 port solenoid as a bleed off the wastegate actuator line.

Map sensor (which measures positive to negative pressure) informs the ECU, ECU controls solenoid at programmed rate.

As for aftermarket ECU, it will depend on what model your car is. I'm guessing it's a WRX as that's the only Subaru Turboed model release in Aus at that time, then I'm thinking you should talk to Sean at ASG as you'd find he reprograms and dynos them all the time. 200hp will be achievable but not good for your engine over the long haul. I would suggest you upgrade internals before trying to put your engine under too much stress (or buy a Twin Turbo GTB bottom end) and play with that.

Cheers,
Paul

Do not focus on the dyno figure alone.

I have driven 200+ kw cars that have been simply dreadful in traffic - ie they were better suited as track cars.

My advice would be to work out want you want do with your car, look at it as a whole machine - suspension, brakes, clutch, gearbox etc (rather than just a KW output) and book some time with a experienced tuner.

If you're looking for a decent aftermarket ECU and your wanting to have no troubles then I'd be looking to buy a Motec system. They aren't cheap but they work the best and if you're looking to upgrade later on then these ECU will do everything you need without have to change the ECU again.

As for your fuel system, it will need to be upgraded not just the pump but also the fuel rail system on the engine. Sean at ASG has had many years of experiance with upgrades and tuning. You would be best to look at http://www.perth-wrx.com as there is lots of info on there what would help you.

Cheers,
Paul

I have a aultronic ecu, they are very good and ofter compared to motec but for half the price.
They also have plug and play for some subarus.
If you are going to put in a newer ej25 later look for something that has variable camshaft control, aultronic sm4 has this.

5 speed could be need of an oil change.. Try some Redline Lightweight Shockproof in it.. I was amazed at how different it transformed the feel in my gearboxes.

As for a RWD conversion on your existing box, check out this from PPG
