Gday,
I bought a subaru 89 wagon a few weeks ago and am in the process of getting it road worthy.
For the rwc I need:
*some rust removed from the firewall drivers side
*tyres
*front shocks
*driver side rear gas strut
*headlights (done)
*windscreen
*rear break shoes
*swaybar bushes and gearbox bush
Lucky enough ive got a mate who's a mechanic and another that works at repco.
So my qustions are:
1 I want to lift it 3inches, should I do this before or after the rwc
2 Would the pergeot 14" or 15 wheels fit without a lift, seeing I need tyres I thought I may aswell get new tyres for larger wheels.
3 I'm thinking of getting king springs with kyb's shocks allround seing I need front shocks anyway, Is it just king spings and kyb I ask for or is there more to their name.
4 My clutch is also going (Well I think it is it doesnt grip till last few cm of travel) would a normal repco one be good enough or should I get a uprated one.
Thanks in advance.
Dave

•• Do it after RWC because it *might* affect it. All mechanics are different.
2 Would the pergeot 14" or 15 wheels fit without a lift, seeing I need tyres I thought I may aswell get new tyres for larger wheels.
•• Factory size is 13" and it'll pass RWC if you had 15" or below, i would do that if i were ya, otherwise get cheap 13" (I know you can get them for around $15ea from wreckers - depends which one you go to and put on the factory wheels.) (Been there done that, got 2nd hand ones from wreckers and sold the car with 2nd hand tyres, no one knows they were RWC enough!)
3 I'm thinking of getting king springs with kyb's shocks allround seing I need front shocks anyway, Is it just king spings and kyb I ask for or is there more to their name.
•• If shockers are no good, it does affect RWC, so you'll need to replace them. I'm not the best person to tell you what brand shockers you need.
4 My clutch is also going (Well I think it is it doesnt grip till last few cm of travel) would a normal repco one be good enough or should I get a uprated one.
•• If you're planning to do heavy 4WD driving or normal road use or something, if you're going serious with large wheels, lift kit, best get heavy duty clutch... otherwise normal one will do, depends on your budget.
Good Luck mate
Cheers

Thanks for the replies,

Yeah I wasnt to sure about this, I'll speak to my mate whos doing the work and rwc, I was thinking it might be a good time to do it beacuse it's un registered atm so It'll probably need to go for a vicroads inspection.

Hmmm, might do both, I'll try get some pergeot wheels and new tyres and see if they scrape, if they do $60 isnt to bad for rwc 2nd handers till it's lifted.

The car's my only car, so it'll be used on the road pretty much all the time except for holidays and a few weekends away. Are the heavy duty clutches much more of a strain on the left leg?
in my experiences and knowledge of everyone else's experiences, KYB shocks and King springs are the best for your L.
Yeah it's great having a forum like this, lot's of others experiance and expertise, I only found these out by searching here. Is kyb's and kings all that I need to ask for or if there are differnts king kyb combinations for L series subaru's.
Thanks again
Dave
hmm seems I stuffed up the italics it's on my replies, oh well it's done now.
