hi all ,i did a search on here and found out the fuel filter is in the tank on this model ,,my question is ,is it possible to pull it out and clean it ? is it a bag style filter on the end of the pickup tube ?. ... problem i have with car is its very sluggish of the mark ,like its struggling for fuel ,i did check and replace the air cleaner which had a large hole in it from being sucked into throttle body ,,,i have just bought this car and i am just doing some service type maintainance ,,oils and filters ,,,maybe this will help my sluggish problem ... car is auto ... khanacross

If the fuel filter was your problem causing sluggish acceleration, the engine would not rev up very well and probably no power whatsoever after 3000rpm.

If it has good power once you're moving, it won't be the fuel filter.

In tank fuel filter is a compressed paper cartridge and is not cleanable.

If you air filter was sucked through, it must have been pretty dirty.

So is the check engine light still on?

Stick your head up under the dash and look for a pair of green plugs
Will look like this
Image

Once you find them, plug them together and turn the ignition to 'ON'

Watch the Check Engine Light and count its flashes, both long and short.

Tell us and we can tell you what is wrong

From what I've read its normal in this diag mode for thermo fans and f/pump to cycle on/off, but wait for confirmation on this.

Ok
Did you also see the black connectors there?

Make sure the green plugs are dis-connected and plug the black ones together.

Turn the ignition on and you should now have a code

thanks heaps guys ,,i plugged the black wires together and started counting flashes , got two long and two short = 22 which i think is knock sensor ???? if so is the ej22 liberty's the same knock sensor?? (i have some spare ones of these) is it just a matter of replacing the sensor than start the car and go ? or do i now have to reset computer ? ,thanks heaps ..khanacross

I'd give the engine a Subaru upper engine clean, and possibly off car injector clean.

The carbon buildup in the combustion chamber increases the chance of spark knock, since the compression ratio is higher.

It also acts as a sponge, absorbing fuel that should be part of the combustion process, hence flat spots on acceleration etc.

ok ,found out ej22 is differant from ej25 ,damn .... so is the knock sensor a dealer only part or can we buy aftermarket ? how much money we talking here ? .. thanks
