genuine prices..

i know its been said before and people sook about it all the time so now its my turn to sook.
replacing a cv boot on my liberty, the hub nut is stuffed, rang subaru.
$12.50 for a friggin nut.
end sook.

You're a friggin nut.. how many of them do you want? there must be a dozen just lying around on the floor at the workshop and I'm sure if you asked nicely to John (Allan's) he'd probably give you one.

I guessing you mean you'd 'just settle for a set of decent nuts' but the Liberty/Impreza later style work rather well on rally cars, just need to do them up tight and make sure you bend the centre in enough so it doesn't move.

yeh i know, they do hold my hub together nice and tight.
i think i beat the dimple in too much. I find it hard to get it undimpled and then re-using them is a pain.

If where complaning about genuine prices how the VDC sensor (small black box that sits beside the handbrake) in my outback h6 $3600
Was missing when I got the car and hence the vdc has never worked.

to continue with the original post i tried to get 3 seals from repco they wanted 68buks i rang amcap the next day for the same 3 seals n the total of 17 dollars now i think the genuine parts are at a fair price

Yeah I prefer the design of the L series nut too, somehow I don't like the thought of just a little bent in bit of a metal lip is all that protects against the nut undoing and letting the whole hub fall to pieces. Although of course this is silly, it doesn't happen if it's been done up properly, and as RSR says - it works fine for extreme rally conditions.
OEM prices can be rediculous for many things, but also surprisingly reasonable for others. When ringing around for parts I usually still give Subaru a ring just in case.
I think the same thing probably occurs for other manufacturers too.
Back when I used to run my 13b turbo RX-7 all the time, I'd regularly shred the fan belt. Damn things used to only last me about 10 days and would cover the engine bay in black rubber dust no matter how tight I'd adjust them. This was using Bosche belts at about $17 a pop. I rang Mazda and was surprised to find out that the OEM fan belt was only $6.50 so ordered a couple. Only ended up using the first one because it lasted well over 6 months! Was still working fine when I stopped driving the car too.
So still worth checking for OEM prices, it's only a phonecall and at least you can post an amusing thread on the forum detailing the rediculous price you were quoted
