Front wheel arch stretching (for bigger tyres)

It is my opinion that Subaru should have made the wheel arches on the front of their MY machines a little more spacious. When fitting slightly larger wheels and tyres, you tend to run out of room for the tyres to pivot when steering. Some people fix this with a hammer alone, which gets messy and just isn't right. Others make a big fuss about cutting, splicing, welding, bogging and reshaping everything "properly", so they reckon...

This here is the way I do it. It's simple, works, looks original and doesn't cause extra rust problems. And how long does it take? Less than 30 minutes a side from jacking it up to dropping it back on it's freshly clearanced wheels...

The floor seam needs to be folded over to allow the tyre past, and the footwell is slightly reshaped.

This is the Brumby with a two inch lift fitted, guards reshaped and 27" tyres bolted up.

And a couple of pics of the finished arch out in the yard to show the wheel position and clearance...
