The gearbox on my 1999 liberty rx wagon is making dreadful noises, and I suspect it is going to completely self destruct any day now. I am trying to urgently find out a ball park price for replacing it so I can decide whether to trade it in or not. This is a matter of great urgency. I realise that no-one will give me an exact price, but I am looking for an indication of how much I will need to set aside.

Help anyone??????

Three years ago I bought and had fitted through my local mechanic a reconditioned 1992 dual range manual box for $3k. With my mechanical knowledge now, I'd go to a wreckers and pick one up for a couple of hundred dollars and install it myself.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Owen.

as Owen said you can pick up a box from between 100 -1000 dollars (depending on what you want) and if you find the right people to help you it can be installed for beer money :)
