Hey everyone,

I'm doing a bit of a country trip in a couple of weeks and wondered if anyone has fitted a bug screen to their bull bar and how it impacted on the air flow/cooling. Should I bother? Apparently there are a lot of loccusts our there at the moment!

I had a new radiator fitted to my 92 L Series (EA82) 6 months ago, but now that summer is returning, i'm still seeing the temperature gauge climb to half way when I'm running the air con... which I guess is pretty normal for these systems.... but would a piece of shadecloth on the bull bar disrupt the air flow too much?

Dunno about your model mate, but I have nylon flyscreen behind the grille on my 03 XS Forester and it has made no difference to the temp according to position of the needle on the gauge. The needle sits at around 50% mark hot or cold weather so I don't know how accurate it is.

I've had flyscreen (not shadecloth) on the front of one of my cars. Didn't notice any change in running temp. If there are real plagues of bugs, a screen might actually help cooling by keeping the rad and condenser fins clear.

Yep, use medium mesh flyscreen, not shadecloth as the holes are not big enough in that.

Also, if you go through a locust cloud, slow down to 60kmh and then they will go over the car in the air slipstream instead of smashing against the windscreen.
