Noob needs help with model/vin number

Post by Ardy » Sun Aug 29, 2010 5:11 pm

I've owned subaru's my whole life but i admit that i don't know a whole lot about them (i used to work for Holden - don't shoot me!)

Anyway i bought a 2006 impreza the other day (44000km... $8850... slight hail damage...was quite happy with that purchase)... it's a lot different to my 2007 impreza, i do know that the 06 lights etc were slightly different but i'm having trouble determining what model it is/engine size etc.

All the vin decoders on the net just make it even more confusing.

The VIN is :JF1GD9KF36GXXXXXX
Engine is: C723866

The car has 16in alloys and a spoiler, pretty sure it's an R but not sure.

Really wanna know what i'm playing with before i do too much fiddling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers,
Lisa

That VIN doesn't look right.. I can check it on the system if you could PM me the complete number (double check both the plates against the body stamping)

The closest so far is a 2006 Impreza S 2.0ltr Auto but like I say it doesn't make sense :???:

The thing is...i get the same error messages with my other subaru... bought from the dealer...

the VIN for this one is... JF1GD9KF36G053278

I asked some of my subaru owning friends if i could check their vins and they get the same thing... model unknown and check number invalid.

Ok Lisa.. from that VIN I can give these details..

2006 Subaru Impreza Red Sedan with an EJ204 (2.0ltr Non-Turbo) engine, a Manual 5 speed transmission and had these options.. 16" Alloy wheels, Side Airbags (along with the standard fronts), Cruise Control and a rear spoiler.

Hope that helps?

Cheers,
Paul

oh and by the way.. nice buy for $8850

That's a bargain price - well done!!
The DOHC engines in the 2.0R rev pretty well.

Oh, and it sounds like your dealer doesn't know much...

Thanks for all your help guys...now i can start fixing her up.

Perth got hit with hail pretty bad in March so finding parts is almost impossible. I'm gonna replace the bonnet, not sure whether to wait for stock or go carbon fibre and the roof and a few side panels are gonna try and be knocked out... the company i work for also owns a dent doctor so i'll be getting that pretty cheap.

There will still be a few dents in her but i can live with those... and i got my deck installed today and we found a set of german splits, previous owner left them in there :D

Cheers again for all the help :)
