Hey there liberty owners,

Does anyone have a photo of their center console showing the stick shift and the low range levers?

I'm interested (primarily in 95-99). . . .

thanks,

Yeah that's Gen1 vs Gen2.
Try searching online secondhand car sales webpages, there are usually interior pics galore.

Mine is a gen 2 . if you look on the page 4 of my outback thread, it has pics of it. There not the best, but should give an idea.

Thanks RTCB65!

That little pic kind of tells a lot.
So I glanced at that thread and it sounds like you went from gen 1 OB/gen 2 liberty/legacy 4EAT to a gent 1 liberty/legacy 5MT 3.90 FD?

Is that right? It reads like AP built this gear box, I assume to have a better low gear?

At any rate, good work!

ALSO, can you get me a part number for that in the gen 2 liberty/legacy console with the slot for the low range lever?

thanks bunches!

I'm in the USA and wouldn't know where to start looking for local AUS secondhand car sales webpages. :(

Try here, I need the same for the WRX below as my front LSD arrived from the US of A today (7 days, brilliant) and we need to work out how to mount the hi/lo lever, I'm thinking about maybe welding a piece of tube to the end of the transfer lever then having the T bar stick up instead of laying flat as I have a later console with a lid , I may have to look through carsales myself haha.

Is this what you are after. Hope it helps. I think the pics are of a outback , so there will be some small differences to a gen 2 liberty.

Here are some intimate pics of the console arrangement. I was visiting Gee when I remembered you were after the pics, he had his console apart which worked out really well.

You'll need the boot and metal surround to help support the cable that selects hi/lo. The hi/lo lever should have some holes to mount to. Once you've got these bits all you need is the cover that keeps it all tidy, apparently you just need the top piece that lifts off as you can see in one of the pics. I'm not sure which gen this liberty is I'm sorry.

Pics:

And the dual range gear lever boot and metal surround that supports the cable for the hi/lo ratio selection.

All of these parts shouldn't be hard to organise with someone who's close enough to a yard to grab them for you. There are plenty of Liberty's in the yards now. It might even be possible to match your interior colour if you get it right...

Hope this helps you out with your pursuit of the parts ;)

Cheers

I just cut a slot in my std WRX console & glued a piece of rubber under that with a slit cut in it & a hole punched in each end of that, works perfect & looks pretty much factory, let me know if you want a pic.

Yes a pic would be good. I see in the gen 1 Leggo pic above, that plastic has a little rise to it that wouldn't be similar to the console w/o the loar range shifter.... Others have said the shifter fits in the slot where there's a "coin tray" in trannys w/o the lor range, but this gen 1 shows how it is a different console than one w/o the low range...

thanks all you folks, this is helpful and building a part number list for a local parts guy to work with ;)

Here is all I did, could have been a bit more careful cutting & gluing but it's not like you sit & stare at it all day, I'm sure with a bit more measuring & a bit less guessing it will look fine.

Oh and the sticker is just sitting there after ripping it off the old console cover.
