yes I nearly became the proud owner of one of these complete setups from the US of A motor, wiring, relay, pop up grille etc.

sadly a US collector decided he had more money than sense and I stopped bidding at 150 dollars US

They came out in the US as an option on the earlier models and is called a passing light, Bit of a gimmick really! same as side steps and jump seats in the brats and of course the factory turbo option!
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.

Yeah I heard that the jump seats in the Brat was originally installed as a means to negate a sales tax that was imposed not sure if this is correct or not. I think it was known as the "Chicken Tax"

Jump seats were so the BRAT could be imported as a vehicle rather than a truck to minimise import duty. US government closed the loophole in 1986 and Subaru stopped importing BRATS's around 1987.

The cyclops/third eye/passing light setup is relatively common on the early MY's (the 1981 model with the weird >===< shaped grille), a fair bit tougher on the later (1982) - in the US market of course. I know a UK Ausubaru member was looking to fit this setup on a MV (Brumby) a few months ago...
