Today I took my Brumby to have the front brake disks machined. It cost over $300 dollars and then my back wheel fell off about 1km down the road because the lugs weren't done up. It was fun.

The moral of the story: Always get quotes first (expect mechanics to try to rip you off) and check the car yourself before you drive away.

Plz let us know what mechanic this is? Thats an overkill for money. They should refund you!

It was one of the major tyre shops in Kalamunda. When the wheel came off the drum dropped onto the inside of the alloy Peugeot rim leaving gouges so I have asked them to replace the rim as well as the lug nuts, which fell off and were lost. By the way- the guy said that if they can't find a rim, they can machine the inside of the damaged one, but I don't think I like the sound of that... I reckon a full refund would be good too.

does the invoice brake (break ) down the total,
cause if thats all they did then i reckon youve been over charged by about by about $240.00 to $180.00 toooooooo much and about $300.00 toooo much with wheels left loose
could have had much worse consequences

Machining- 19.50 x2 - 39.00
Brake cleaner- 10.50
Split pins- 3.00
Waste removal- 8.80
Labour- 2.5 hrs @ $99 per hour- 247.50

Total- $308.08

Ridiculous isn't it?

Ok, I thought that might be the case. Is that because it weakens the wheel?

By the way, there was no waste removal of pads as I insisted on putting the new pads in myself when I got home.

2.5 hours to do what? You must be leaving something out. And if you only had the front discs machined, why did the back wheel fall off?

there not from the comedy companey are they .if you kept the pads and break clean disolves there shouldnt be any waist removal . love this shit

The back wheels came off in the workshop because the receptionist hadn't communicated with the mechanic properly to tell him I had asked for the front disks to be machined. Fortunately I was there to tell him what needed to be done before he replaced the exhaust or something! I don't think he was working solidly for 2.5 hours.

I should probably get an independent checkup done on the car and make these guys pay for it- who knows what other bolts have been left undone? I don't think I want to find out when I'm on the freeway. I'll let you know what happens....

wow. I usually get a mobile guy around and he can have all 4 discs done in under an hour. I have the car up on stands with the wheels and calipers removed before he arrives, but that doesn't take me long. I can't remember how much it cost me last time i had it done, but was a lot less than $300, might have even got change out of $100...

You had the discs machined, but no new pads, but fitted them yourself on arriving home?

Why wouldn't you have new pads fitted at the time? Old pads on new or machined discs is not always a top idea.

As a comparison, I had new RDA discs, quality pads for my RS Lib for not much than you have paid in total - all fitted (so lazy these days)

Agree with everyone - you have been felt up.

To address this, be smart and use the MTA etc if approaching the establishment politely fails

You should report them, They are basically stealing your money. No waste plus over two hour to change disk's... that can be done in 30min with work shop tools. I do it here without a air gun and takes about an hour.
I agree, NAME AND SHAME!!! You could have been in an accident or worst.

I did the pad replacement myself to save money- like that worked!? The only things I ever get anyone else to do on my car are the things I don't have the gear to do myself, ie- machining.

Is $99 per hour excessive for hourly labour rate? Just got to put together my case for when I call consumer protection tomorrow...

they have double charged for labour, the machining is invoiced at $39, then they put labour on. machining is 100% labour.
