Post by guyph_01 » Tue May 18, 2010 7:42 pm

hey guys,

I know there is a ebay sales thread but didn't find a gumtree on.
Anyway saw this bullbar for a Gen2 liberty or outback,

Good idea!

Inspired by this i decided to check out the Melbourne gumtree and found someone willing to swap a Subaxtreme bar for a normal bumper to suit a Gen3 Lib/Outback. Bargain!

Yep I've known this car for about 8 or 9 years. When I say this car, this is really the second one due to an accident. Owned by my friends Andrew and Warren. Andrew built it and used it for quite a while, then sold it to Warren who is now selling it.

Originally was an`89 white EFI touring wagon. Andrew had kings springs and lift kit bought and installed professionally. Engine conversion was done at home but very well, with the help of some auto electricians. Very meticulously done and has been absolutely bulletproof the whole time. Has a custom 3core radiator (the thermos are probably abit small, only 8", but keep it cool fine).
Car and owner moved over to Melbourne. Car was in an accident and was written off due to front corner damage (from memory). No damage to engine.

He bought another Touring wagon, the purple one in the photo, and simply transferred all the running gear over so it was still exactly the same except not crashed, and a different colour.

This one was originally a carby touring wagon, 1 year older than the original white one I think. Has been resprayed to a non-factory deep purple/blue colour at some point by previous owner. Looks nice, paint is in decent nick.

Sold to his brother and was sent back to Perth via train.

It has an adaptor plate to a standard part time 5speed gearbox, I believe it's a puck clutch but very driveable and holds the power fine. Obviously it smokes the front wheels like a motherf_cker so you have to have balls to drive it.
2" lift (solid ally blocks)
14" speedies with street tyres
Decent bullbar (owner had this made brand new by Irvine bullbars, but prolly bout 8 or 9 years back now).
Roofrack not pictured is one of those quite large basket types, ally.
The EJ20 is an absolutely excellent one, runs bloody beautifully, nice and quiet. New timing belt was installed when conversion was done, hasn't done that many kms.
Has a basic mild steel press bent sports exhaust, pretty subtle.
Hasn't got the aircon connected.
The gearbox developed a bad whine (as you'd expect from a part time L series 5spd after quite a few years behind an EJ20). Was replaced with a good one recently so it's fine now.
Standard open rear diff.

Could do with a little more lift (fresh struts and maybe upgrade to a 3" lift) to improve it's offroad ability.
Otherwise to keep it more road orientated it could benefit from an AWD conversion.

Great honest car, I can vouch my ass off for it, has not been thrashed.

Also should add, has passed the Perth pits twice in it's current form with no problems at all (first time few years ago when it came back to perth), second time only a couple of weeks ago to get re-licenced as he let it lapse.

Looks tough. real tough - you need better photos though to assist people who are unsure, or noobs, what a great car it is.

Andrew's vouch for the car is good on here, but is still a small audience when selling cars.

G'day Wazza! How did you go getting that setup registered in Vic? Very keen to know how you went about that one ;)

Looks like a good offroader you've got there!

Cheers

I suspect the white car may not have been re-licensed in Vic, just run on the Perth plates for a while. Then when it was crashed after not so long (and de-licensed), the Purple one was bought already licensed in Vic and converted to EJ20turbo without an inspection afterwards. Was located in quite a small rural town so not so important.
Then brought to Perth and put over the pits to be licensed here.
