Gen2 AWD

Post by jimmeh14 » Wed May 12, 2010 5:37 pm

Hey all,
I've posted a thread like this before, but i have a liberty gen2 fwd.
I hate the fact that its fwd. I went to the wreckers today and found a gen1/gen2 wagon ( not sure what gen ) which still has the entire rear suspension, diff and tail shaft. the diff is 4.11 and i'm going back tomorrow to remove the entire rear suspension, diff and tail shaft. They should all fit my car right? i think the thing i wouldn't need is the tail shaft / fuel tank as these have to be from a sedan ?
Also, i've been reading about rwd conversion, how do i go about locking the centre diff or whatever to stop the power going to the front and send it straight to the back, or can i just pull the front cv shafts off and use it like that?
any help would be appreciated!!
also if anyone has a awd gear box 5sp manual ( 4.11 ), tail shaft and fuel tank in brisbane i'd like to hear from you ( preferably cheap as i'm pretty short on money! ) :)

G'day,
Gen 1 has 3.9:1 diff if manual.
Gen 2 has 3.7:1 diff if manual..
if its automatic, both are 4.11.

You can use rear cradle, suspension, diff & carriers, tailshaft plus AWD fuel tank as well.
Cheers

so i can use the suspension, rear cradle, carriers, tail shaft, hubs etc AND the wagon fuel tank on my sedan? my car is a manual so i guess i shouldn't take the diff as its 4.11 so i wont be able to find a 4.11 manual gear box

Correct. You can..
There are 4.11 manual gearboxes out there (even you could convert from 3.7 to 4.11 in that box but involves opening the box and finding 4.11 and change 5th gear ratio), from Forrester or WRX/Legacy/Liberty GT etc but you gotta find one!
