Just thinking out loud really.

I'm driving around Toowoomba today in my brumby and noticed the speedo has over 400,000 on it. But what does that mean and what has done 400,000.

The engine is out of another car an EA82T
It has a five speed box, how far has it done??
The tailshaft????
The diff is an LSD from somewhere else
the whole front end and bearings have been replaced by me
the rear axles I have brought in from another car
the rear hubs etc are discs and I have replaced all the bearings there too
All brake pads have been replaced
the seats are out of something else
Front struts have been replaced

Nope..not sure what has done 400,000...maybe the bonnet

By not noting these figures down over time relative to your speedo you have surely done yourself a disservice, like a friend of mine who recently unexpectedly had to rebuild his diff because it had been around the clock several times but its actual kilometerage (?) was unknown.

It's fun to lose all drive in the middle of a humongous traffic jam.

Trevor, the only thing on your Brumby that has done the 400000km would probably be the front bumper, and the tail light lenses

The only thing your sure has done the 400,000 is that thing in the dash that shows over 400,000:P

You are lucky the speedo or odometer still works or even got there ! My 84 Brumby came with 88,0000 on the clock in 98, its second known engine and second known gearbox. I pulled the 'first' engine down to find a severely abused crank. The seat belt reminded me of a taxi seat belt , you know, those old XF's with 700,000km or more on them.

My second speedo worked for a few years before odo died, same with my third. I noticed my fourth and current unit was well lubed inside on the nylon gears driving the odometer. My Brumby had a life in or near Moree and figure the heat was too much for the lube to stay in the correct place - or the odo died after 1,088,000km ?

I do know I have done over 300,000 km in the red body since ownership in 98

Similar situation to my L Series.

Odometer shows 361,000

* Engine has done 120,000
* Struts/Springs - 30,000
* Brakes - 5000k (Yet, mechanics botched the drums now the adjusters are sticking on causing the brakes to knock, gotta take it back when I get the time)
* Gearbox - 210,000
* Front seats - (re upholstered - less than 10,000 ago)
* Bumpers - 6000k
* Wheels/Tyres - 3000k
* Steering wheel - 1000k
* Exhaust - 10,000



So bugger all is actually original.

Yep. makes you wonder allright...and phantomD, it was all pretty well done when I bought it so I know what you're saying but I have no record when these jobs were done. I just felt it was ironic that the speedo odometer isn't really telling me anything.
