Hi everyone I would like to know if anyone can tell me what the standard stud pattern size for a 1987 Subaru XT Vortex is?
And also would like to know if 17" (There 4 stud) rims that are 125mm apart would fit the standard Vortex?

Any information would be a great help

Mate, the Vortex is 140 x 4 pattern which is unique to Poogoats and the Leonie/Vortex range so your rim options are very limited.

Largest you will find are 15" Superlites unless you want poxy looking Sunraisia rims.

Also bear in mind that most insurance companies wont insure you if you install rims more than 2" larger than standard & the boys in blue are of the same opinion (in SA anyway)

Essentially insurance companies cannot reject you if your vehicle complies with ADR's , so would be passed by your states authority in keeping within the no more than so many millimeters of the nominal rolling diameter. Possibly an engineers certificate can over ride these figures. 195 50 15 comes in sweet. A 25 or 30 profile may also come in under the required.... forgotten what PCD stands for, but that is the term used for stud distance apart from each other. Google it?

If you are keen go for the Crossbred hub conversion. This converts to standard Liberty/Impreza/WRX stud pattern which completely opens up your rim choice.
It also massively upgrades your brakes and suspension at the same time so while the initial purchase/install may seem abit expensive relative to the market value of your car, it's still got alot of value.

As for your rims sizes.. I'm not sure if Vic is the same but over here we can only legally go up 2 sizes (13" to 14" or 15") without an engineers report. Some vehicle inspections officers will even check your tyre placard

Yer I think the same rule applies to Vic has the same rules about the going up 2 sizes up as well, but how easy would it be for me to change over the cross hub to a 5 stud option and would it be worth it if I do change it?

Keeping with the Nominal Overall Tyre Diameter rules applied in NSW, with 175 70 13 standard tyre fitment by the placar has a NOTD of 576mm which an increase of 15mm is allowed.

195 45 R 16 @582mm
205 45 R 16 @ 590mm
195 40 R17 @588mm
245 35 R16 @578mm

would be permissable as sizes on these old subies

As said previously, even if the police are ok with your 17" rims, most insurance companies aren't. NRMA i think allow one increase in size, AMMI i have heard wont allow any increase in size. Justcar and Shannons will allow anything provided you tell them first

NoRealMechanicsAvailable insured a neighbours Morris 1000 ute with Datsun twin carb 1400 and 7 inch mags. They knocked me back with a Falcon with 8's. I cancelled my bomb insurance and road service with them and not looked back (just before the payout to members, so cost me a little in shares)
