G'day Tom,
Welcome to ausubi!
When looking for info, do a search first - it will be slow going but you'll be surprised what you'll learn on the way
There is a thread about this somewhere on here, it was a while ago though.
Basically everything motor wise stands like other vehicles - just double check for head gasket issues. These motors can go for a very long time if well looked after. 300k+ kms isn't unusual! Anything under this is considered "unbroken in"...
Body wise, rust under/around windscreen, in the front of the doors (when open look in around the hinges), underbody under the front of the doors, the tray area and the tail gate. That's the normal areas. Also under the bonnet along the fire wall where the spare lives can rust out too.
A sloppy gear stick can be fixed with a new bush and by slotting/bolting the selector shaft. This has been covered in other places too.
Always check for signs of an crash - its good to have an independant mob to look over the vehicle.
Best of luck looking! I'm keeping an eye out for one that might pop up at the right price... They seem to average $5k with better examples going for as much at $8k at times - just depends on when and where it is.
Cheers
Bennie
