Hey guys,
My L series has the EJ25 DOHC that came out of Lapsed car. I'm trying to chase up an O2 sensor to get installed because it wasn't done during the conversion, and i'm fairly certain my fuel economy is suffering. My problem is none of the parts suppliers in my area can get them. I called the dealership in ballarat and she couldn't get past the fact i didn't have a VIN number. F***. I've called a few more dealerships with the same problem, while Parts Unlimited Subaru in Melb reckon it'll set me back $495. wtf, i think he just couldn't find the part so gave me a BS price to get rid of me? Does anyone have any other ideas where i can get one of these things?

If you can track down a factory workshop manual for the vehicle that engine came from, you should be able to make up a VIN to give to Subaru parts people. Or look for a similar model in a car yard and go and write down its VIN.

But I'm pretty sure EJ25s are in the Bosch O2 sensor catalogue which any parts shop should have, so you can steer clear of genuine.

Throw one of these in there eBay.com.au - O2 SENSOR - 3 WIRE UNIVERSAL
It does the exact same job, but at nearly 1/10th the price. I put one of these in my L turbo when i rebuilt it, and it was still working when i sold it 2 years later

i had the same problem with my old car (not a subi though). just buy a good aftermarket sensor like a bosch or ngk sensor. you may also be able to get one from the wreckers really cheap as well and sometimes they just need a clean and they are good to go.

Thanks for the help guys. I've sent a message to the bloke selling the universal ones on ebay (none listed atm). If i get one of these ones i guess i'll just cut off the plug on the loom and wire it directly in? Otherwise from what i've read the 4 wire is the same with an earth. I've also found the Bosch aftermarket one to go with the EJ25D (I downloaded their whole catalogue). Will get prices tomorrow.

Can't work out if i should have an after-cat sensor as well, anyone know?

Bugger mate! I could've picked up one at PAP last weekend...

I'm sure my local parts joint could find what your after if you wanted me to look it up for you - or get them to give you a call...

Their number is 5429 5114 - O'Dea's Auto Spares. Tom, Chris and Dave run the place and are great at what they do. I even got behind the counter last week to check out some radiator hoses, I was most privileged!

Either way, there's some thing out there that will do the job - I thought for almost $500 that was the whole thing installed without you having to do anything other than pick up your subi at the end of it all...

All the best with it - I really wish I was closer to lend a hand/compare parts etc

Subaru's O2 sensors are the same as after market Bosch O2 sensor, just that Subaru puts the prices up on genuine O2 but its labeled as Bosch.
I bought my Bosch one about 6 months ago for under $100 bucks. (I think think it was $87 or something..... I cannot be exact)

Ordered the same one that Suparoo linked from eaby for $62 posted. I'm pretty happy with that Now i'm just worried that the ECU has been flashed or something to ignore the o2 sensor because i don't have any codes coming up. I'll put it anyway and see what happens. Should i have the sensor put in after the 2-1 join before the cat or can it go on one side after a 4-2 join?

In the 2-1 join so it is sampling exhaust gas from both sides of the engine. Im assuming from that that you no longer have the factory header pipes, whats in its place? Have you got pictures of your setup?

Venom has a set of 4-2-1 extractors, with the joins being further back than standard and equal lenght but not matched to exhaust pulses...

Being an EJ where the o2 sensor is placed (distance from exhaust ports) shouldn't be too much of a problem as it is heated from what I understand.

I too would recommend putting it in the last joint if possible - I have seen the setup but can't remember the finer details of the exhaust pipe shape etc. You'd want to mount the o2 sensor so I won't catch on anything when you're offroading...

I hope the towbar's going well for you too - I saw one at PAP that had ripped out or snapped all the nuts on one side! They must've been doing something wrong!!

the thing about Subaru - the ECM doesnt show error codes if the O2 sensor doesnt work or it is...
They last about 100,000kms anyway.

I wouldnt bother with 2nd hand anyway because you dont know how old or what the history is.
