I just got a subaru liberty awd and would like to give an extended hello to everyone. Thanks for all the people who gave me advice on my advice post. Im really loving this car and look forward to hopefully going on some cruises if you guys do any.

A couple of quick questions though on things i need to sort out.

1) my reverse lights arent working (its a manual). i have checked the globes and they seem fine and the fuse (dash) which is shared with the indicators seems fine as well (tried switching it anyways although it looked fine). Any ideas what else this could be before i start probing around with a multimeter?

2) I will need to replace one of my cv boots. any idea how much this will cost (i guess i will probably replace both as the other is likely on its way as well if one side is gone). The cv shaft/joint itself is not noisy so it should only need the boot replaced.

3) The reverse gear seems to be really easy to crunch, even from a standstill when i shift it into reverse, unless i shift really slow it will crunch when engaging. Is this normal? would it most likely just need a fluid change?

4) I will get a good first service done soon and will replace all fluids filters etc. and would like to know what oil you guys would recommend? i dont want el cheapo stuff but on that note i dont want to go crazy and spend $70 on oil either, i used to spend around 40 for mid-range performance stuff on my old car. and what weight is recommended as well? i was thinkinga decent 10W40 like penrite.

Cheers,
gerzod

firstly, welcome!
About the reversing light, there is a switch on the left side of the gearbox, it would be good start to check with multimedia. Happened to me once that didn't work so swapped it over.
Crunching gearbox, i would say its a sign of worn gearbox, best way is to change the oil over. Most of the time it helps. Mine crunches when the gearbox is hot, specially in heavy traffic otherwise it doesnt
Haven't gotten anyone to service my cvs since as i do them myself, the boots are arnd 16bucks each,
Cheers
AP.

thanks for the super fast reply! i will check out that transmission switch when i get a chance.
Also i have read that changing the headers to unequal length gives the exhaust a boxer rumble which is what i want so i will do that eventually but for the meantime does anyone have any recommendations for a muffler to replace the stock exhaust one? (leaking so it needs to be replaced anyway) i want something with abit of a "grumble" to it however nothing to loud (i.e im thinking probably not a cannon).

i thinks have located the switch, by "left side" i assume you mean passenger side?
how can i test the switch? i cant see any exposed terminals to probe with my multimeter. it seems just the wires coming out and i dont particularly want to splice them incase they get damaged/corroded etc.
