Has anyone fitted one of these to their L series. If yes, does it sound OK, ie is there any raspiness, did it sound deep enough, etc.

After declaring the no muffler mod LOUD beyond the realms of sanity I tried the cannon which I had bought for the tourer, with the rest of the system being stock as a rock.

I really liked the sound, not raspy at all, nice deep sound and a good little rumble, I was really impressed.

I got mine from Online Depot, it's an EBay shop, I got the "5ZIGEN" one for $59, for another $20 they'll give you a removable silencer if you ask for it.

It's not a genuine 5ZIGEN there's an embossed piece of metal tack welded on, but for $60 for a very well built cannon, who cares

Here's some pics:

the raspiness on gear changes/getting off throttle is sometimes caused by the air injection system. Block it off and itll be sweet. Btw i think a fart cannon is stoopid, whats the point of a car thats sounds fast but doesnot go fast? And just another reason for the coppers to pull you over.

I want it because I love the Subie sound. I am getting the most quiet one and painting it black to avoid too much rice

if you want to block off a.i.s. you need two $1 coins, as i think ea82 have one on each exhuast port.

What is AIS, what will happen if I block it off, and how do I block it off?

It helps your cat burn the left over hydro carbons by putting air into exhuast. By blocking it off you will have more hydro carbons in exhuast emmissions. To block off, you should see at least one stainless steel pipe running from exhuast ports to a valve you can see from top of engine. This valve then runs to some plastic mufflers and then to air cleaner. Unscrew nut from exhust port unbolt and unhook valve up top and remove valve/pipe assy. from car. Cut pipe to get the nut off and then put $1 coin in hole and bolt the nut down. Similarly you could get the right sized bolt to block it off. I also used the nut that secured pipe into valve as it was less rusty then the one down the bottom. As I said i think ea82 have two valves and two pipes on either side and I have heard its the same size as the ea81 so the trick should work on your too.

Another plus to blocking it off is that when the valve breaks it lets exhuast come back up thru the valve and plastic mufflers into you carb and inlet manifold. And your carbie aint somewhere you wont molten plastic, tends to screw with stuff  .
