Struts - how do I tell if any good or not?
Hey guys,
I know it sounds like I should know about this by now! lol Ah I have an spare set of struts in the garage, How do I know the condition of them, there is a stamp on them that was made in 10/2004 (They're Monroe GT Gas), at the moment they're all extended and does go up to maximum, seems to be okay? Is there a way I can tell that are okay/RWC enough to put them in the car?
Cheers

As long they go all the way back up when compressed a bit and dont leak at all, they would be worth a shot anyway...............

Compress them and then let go... it should slowly extend at a constant speed, if not, they are stuffed

Best way to realise what good struts are like, get some bad ones.
You'll notice that good ones rebound at a contant speed and feel smooth. Bad ones stay compressed and often feel jagged like they are getting stopped by something.
REALLY bad ones - such as one that was removed from my corolla at one stage will not move at all.
