Overtight nuts?

Just got my new desert rats put on, and it looks like some of the paint has lifted around some wheel nuts from being tightened. This common or should i go back and complain. I don't want the buggers to rust in a year.

It's pretty much unavoidable. If you don't scrape them with the wheel brace, the nuts are sure to chip a bit of paint off. If you're really keen you can probably find a matching touch-up brush.

We apply signwriting vinyl rings to the mounting holes on the wheels we do. Almost invisible, and they reinforce the paint around the hole very well. This allows you to scrape the paint from the tapered seat for the wheel nut, avoiding nuts coming undone while you're driving. Any sign shop with a vinyl cutter can whip some up for you.

Not having anything to do with the nuts with this but, brake and steering are wobbling upon braking. Any suggestions? I took it back in and they rebalanced with the weights on the outside this time but its still slightly there and they suggested drive it for a few days and see what happens.

Warped disks are very likely

Would it have been them that's done it or me? It only started after i got the new wheels put on.

Try changing the wheels front to back.

Sometimes on other cars if the wheelnuts are overtightened with something like a rattle gun the disc rotors can be warped, I always just nip up the nuts with a rattle gun and tighten them by hand. No problems that way but it might be different at a tyre store. Never heard of it happening with a Suby before but I guess theres always a first time.
If your castle nuts are tight and wheel bearings dont have a lot of play, it might pay to get your discs machined by a mob that do on-car machining.

Went down to a disc machining mob and they said it was a common thing so they'll machine the rears then if needed the fronts. $230 all up which sucks as I just forked out for the new wheels and tyres a week ago. I don't know weather I should go back to Beaurepaires and get up them or not though.

You can try if it makes you feel better but probably wont get you very far.
Hope the machining fixes it for you, bear in mind that the shaky steering will be because of the rotors at the front being warped, but the rear drums being out of round will make the brake pedal pulsate only.

Interesting. Maybe I should get him to do the fronts first as the brake vibration now is only very slight but the steering is extremely bad. Might be the fronts causing the little bit of brake vibration aswell?

i got my front disks machined at a suspension/exhaust shop and it only cost me $90 for them to take the off and reface them, made a helllll of a difference because i had that wobbling/ shuddering under braking.

Mines more of a slight vibration under heavy braking through the pedal but extreme shuddering of the wheel if I take my foot off the accelerator.

Have you made sure everything is done up nice and tight? I once had a similar problem that turned out to be loose bolts where the tailshaft bolts up to the diff.

try looking at the steering arm uni if it has play in it. its not really noticable with standard 13 wheels but very noticable with 14s

All bolts are tight and steering arm is fine. Thanks for the suggestions though hopefully once the discs are done everything will be good. Still wondering if it needs all four done considering the guy at the disc place just said to do all four without even taking a ride in it.
