Hello, my rear wheel bearings are on the way out...

First, repco just quoted me 146 each for new ones! Any better ideas?

Also, haven't done bearings before, so my first job is simply getting at them. Just pulling the brake plate off now, but it seems like I'll have to get the half axle out to get at the bearing? And for that... do I need to undo the whole trailing arm?? Guess I'll figure it out, but any help with the process much appreciated.

Thanks Guys, both much better options. And there's even a CBC here in Darwin.

Perhaps more for anyone reading this later (but I'll still gratefully receive any advice): I've disconnected the trailing arm (suspension first, brakes also) and reckon that needed to be done. Knocked the pin out of the hub so that the half axel could disconnect. Now I have the trailing arm fully out - wasn't so bad once I got the various bolts to loosen; now just need to work out how to get in at the bearing itself.

Just bought one from Sprints for $60 but yeah CBC are always good. was quoted $120 from Repco as well, REPCO - Rip Every Poor C*** Off.

This is taken from my thread about Ruby Scoo, my L series.

What I haven't mentioned in the above post is that I used a 50mm tow ball to hammer the casings out and into the hub. This was the second time around that i'd done them - this time it was done in the car as last time I swapped swing arms with a set that had the new bearings and a set of new bushes too.

And do up the castle nut, centre on the hub, as tight as you possibly can
