DIY WRX radiator installation ???

Hello,
I'm not sure if I've posted this in the correct section but I've just been told that my radiator in my 97 WRX has a whole around the seal that separates the side tank and the radiator. The car was in for a tune at my local Subaru dealership and they quoted me $950 for a genuine replacement. As i'm mechanically minded i thought i might look into buying a radiator to install it myself.
Is there anyone out there that has done this and is there anything to look out for in the purchasing and installation? I have been recommended to go genuine over a repair as the seal and the crimp that holds the tank and radiator together isn't as strong when it's only a repair job - which makes sense.
Any feedback is much appreciated.
Regards,
Ross
