Water Pump - Reconditionable?

Post by AlpineRaven » Mon May 11, 2009 7:29 am

Are EJ water pumps reconditionable? I have near new pump in the garage and was planning to put it in my Liberty but I dont know the condition of it, and I dont want to put it in and find a leak or problem with the pump and have to pull it off again!... Can they get new seals/bearings etc
Cheers

dont know, but thats not something i would want to risk, genuine are only about $110 and you know they will last 100,000 km

[pretty sure they are not rebuildable, or they are but you shouldnt do it.

They have rubber seals that can be replaced but you would be hard pressed to find those seals let alone anything else that was broken/needed fixing.

Yep I agree with Bryan... but if you knew the history and it was still in great order, I'd recommend (and would do myself) you could keep the pump as a emergency use, just in case you were stuck out the back of no-where. You could keep a new one for a spare if you liked but I'm not sure how long their shelf life is?
