what to look for when buying a Brumby?

Hi, I've hopefully read all the recent threads to check this out and am still wondering...
I'm after a Brumby, any age, to use locally- I really need a ute and have had 2 Subarus previously.
Are there any pitfalls to check when I go and have a look at one, other than the obvious standard things (rust, rego, handling, tyres and so on)?
I don't have a lot of mechanical knowledge.
Any questions to ask? eg that the CVs have been changed every 70-100,000 clicks? Would anyone be happy to type in a quick list?
It also seems that if it comes with some spotties it will save me a torch!
If it doesn't have a soft tonneau are they very costly to buy?
Many thanks
