G'day guys,
What brand and who is it that Subaru sells genuine coolant (its premix) - is it labeled as Castrol coolant or what?
Thanks
Cheers

Not sure what company makes the "genuine Subaru" coolant, however many of the reputable brands will have a product that is fine to use. Just see what concentration Subaru recommend and buy the one that matches. The Subaru one will be one of the leading brands re-badged with a Subaru sticker / label. I know buying the coolant / oil / brake fluid from a Subaru dealer is very expensive!

Just make sure whatever you use is 90+ and don't mix it with any other brand, I usually get the pre mixed stuff but the concentrate usually works out cheaper.

you can ring a subaru dealers spare parts department and ask them what they use in the workshop, the local one near me had no problem giving me product details

by the way the castrol coolant i tried to get only comes in 200 litre drums, subaru told me to use nulon with mono ethylene glycol for the old L series, but i would prefer the castrol products

Also, (again saw the boxes), the brake fluid used is Castrol also.

I believe it is made by Castrol under license for Subaru and is not the same as the anti-freeze/anti-boil Castrol that you could buy from somewhere else i.e. Repco, etc..

I have pulled many Subaru engines apart whilst working in Japan and it amazed me to see how new the water jackets looked (even after 150-200 thou kms). From seeing that first hand, I only use the genuine coolant in my late model Subies and in the earlier ones, I used Techalloy Gold concentrate with De-Mineralized water.

This is just from my experience because there are products out there that I haven't used.

I use the small castrol bottles that you mix up. My mate used the same when he went around australia in an old landcruiser, so i can imagine it works pretty well.
