DOHC EJ22's were used in the first of the Outbacks before they went to EJ25, cant remember what year they came out in though and no idea if Oz got them

Well I've certainly never heard of one - though I wouldn't be suprised if he does mean one cam per bank . . . a little bit like the quad-cam lable is used a little too liberally.

Interesting.

Best thing to do is go down and have a look.

Mine has DOHC but I put them there.

There are/is DOHC EJ22s... but I think its rare..... not 100% sure.

BUT I know you can use EJ20 or EJ25's DOHC heads on EJ22 block. That can be done... maybe that engine has been converted from SOHC to DOHC.

Cheers

I guess im going to soon find out, dad just went ahead and bought the engine, AWD gearbox, diff, loom and computer, picking it up next weekend. Apparently its out of an Oz model Liberty 110 000kays, im guessing he is full of it in regards to DOHC.

I think the DOHC engines in the first series Outbacks were 2.5's. In the later Outbacks they remained 2.5 but went to SOHC (and I'm told didn't go as well).
