Hope you can help.

My 98 forester has been as watertight as a you-know-what throughout a wet QLD summer, but over this week(also a bit wet) has suddenly decided to collect 3inches of water in footwell behind passenger seat every night!?!

What's going on? What could cause a sudden large leak like this?

Carpet is sodden, wife has been scooping it out with bucket before leaving for last three days. Can't see any obvious sign of worn seals on rear passenger door - where I'm guessing it's leaking.

Any known issues that could be causing it? I'll take door trim off tommorrow and have a look.

Found the leak(s).

1) slight trickle from badly replaced windscreen(lack of solastic) - not cause.

2) grommet missing from engine bulkhead, ac drain hose - also not cause.

3) Flat seal above door mirror, causing rain falling at particular angle to piss in like a tap - bingo!

Hopefully a thin sliver of foam between seal will return waterproofness.
