MY & L door latch swapsies ?

Has anyone found whether you can fit L Series door latches into MY doors. By latch I mean the guts that fits in the door and catches on the striker screwed to frame.
These subies may be LEGO but the differences so subtle betwen L and MY ain't funny. The door striker on the L fits to the MY with 3mm of packing fitted between striker and frame and with the plastic insulator removed from the catching bit on striker.
My old Brumby striker was rattling on some bumps. removed it to find the loop was loose in its plate showing tell tale rust marks and after nearly a million km is a little worn. Am now using L striker with 3mm spacer called washers
. Does not feel right yet or does not sound the same don't know if that is better but it not rattle.
So got thinking will L series fit with MY door ad used in combo with a plastic insulator intact will it all work giving more improved door latching. The bolt screw pattern looks the same, there is the lever hook ups to consider....
