Welcome to the forum! While I'm not going to be much help on the lash adjuster, I would like to guess that your from Bendigo (aka Benders) - Keep an eye out, there are a couple of us getting around that area, me included.

Catch you around the traps sometime ;)

Cheers

The oil pump uses a Silastic gasket & after time it brakes away. Causing oil to pass by the pump. This gives a drop in pressure & the lifters are the first to suffer.

Replace the oil pump gasket with a paper one (aftermarket only) & this will help. If it has been making the noise for a while chances are you have a collapsed lifter. After market lifters are available at about $15 to $20 each.

They are self adjusting and you cannot adjust them yourself.
Give it a oil change and put in castrol magnetic in and go for a long drive with high octane fuel, it will help I am sure, give it a good run on the highway maybe 200kms or more.

well hey awl ! sat arvo ... had a look at the wrkshop manual . glared at car for about 10 mins .thinking.. it carnt be that hard so i pulled the rocker cover off found that there was a gap in the frnt cylinder inlet valve .collapsed tappet. that would have been making the tap tap tap . so i removed the valve assembly as manual said removed tappet cleaned and bleed in oil , it held preassure so i put it all back together turned the key WOW she purred like a kitten ... nay.... a young panther no more ticks have driven it a bit and all seems ok many thanks to all who gave advice ect.... chris

there is a small ball bearing in the end of them to stop oil drianing back out...some times the bearing can get stuck and when it does it cant refresh the oil....instant noise...just need to break the seal on the ball bearing and pump it back up by hand in a container of oil and put it back in....i had to do this myself
