Is it 2 or 4 on TDC with #1 ??

Post by steptoe » Tue Feb 24, 2009 11:03 am

Just a really quick one , hoping for a quick answer

When cylinder #1 is on TDC of its firing stroke is it 2 or 4 that is on its TDC also (not for firing of course)

Just got thinking as its firing order is 1 3 2 4 not 1 3 4 2 like most inline flat fours

Cannot think right , oh yeah, picturing a crank in my head with 1 and 2 at the front of the block

SORRY EA82 or any of our boxer fours...

The opposite.... huh, cant have both these at TDC can we , both crank pins at their extremes does put both 1 and 2 at TDC ?? don't it ??

worked it out and confirmed when looking at a headless block

not really had to think of this before but found the front two pots are at TDC at same time and the rear two pots work are at TDC at same time as each other and at some point i time all four must be in the middle

sorted, thanks

I was going to say #2 outright but you've got it worked out already - I like reading posts like this, its almost like thinking to one's self out loud :D

cheers Bennie, it is a bit like talking to oneself, looking at it in print for all to see then a light comes on.....

did my intake valve spring replacement today. So easy with engine out and cold. used the OHC screw in tool with compressed air down plug hole. I can see SCOOBIDOO waiting with baited breath to see / confirm this fixes my intermittent miss on #2 displayed similar to lifter pump. Been posted 18 months ago and can't find the original post yet " intermittent miss #2" may have been troubleshoot not subie chat. The rocker cover is in the oven at 75 ' to cook the epoxy paint I gave it ...GREEN like the lpg covers of the ford LPG cars.
