Thought I may as well get around to telling them about my engine conversion and as it turns out there is no use...

Any increase in power output and they won't touch you...

Ah well!!!

Yeh my sister works for suncorp insurence and I asked her if they would 3rd party a ej coverted brumby. She said nope it's not the client base they looking for. As they think, as a whole, anyone who changes their engine is more likely to have an accident then someone in a stock car. Maybe you should try that place with the gogo mobile on the add, Shannon's i think.

Not worth it through Shannons, for comprehensive anyway...

need to find a 3rd party insurer now... Might have to threaten NRMA with taking my insurance business somewhere else...

Where and how do we/I go about getting a mod plate. I assume this is an updated complience plate or similar that makes the mods legal?

Mod Plate = QLD thang.

Just cars or Shannons are your best bet. Yes they're expensive.

I have all my cars insured with Shannons and it was no more expensive than with Suncorp or RACQ

funny thing about NRMA- I buillt a Starlet about 6months ago and modded the HELL out of it - rang them told the full list of mods- cost was $14 more for $9k of body mods and engine mods. ( R1 32&35 y/o car is owned outright.)

must be an age thing..

On completion of the EJ20turbo conversion to a friend's L series Wagon about 18 months ago he phoned RAC, his insurance company, to inform them of the engine change and increase in power.
They pretty much said "Ok, we have recorded the change".
He said "oh ok....don't I need to bring it down for you guys to check over it or inspect it?"

"no".

He wrote it off about a year later (misjudged a corner on a gravel road and bent the front-end putting the car into a ditch) - got a full payout for the aggreed insurance amount ($6200ish).
Then he bought the car back off them for just under 2 grand, bought another stock standard L series in better condition than his original one for $2500 and transferred the conversion accross in 4 days by himself.

Ended up with a better car and around $1700 in his pocket. I never did find out what his insurance premiums went up to after that but it was still an overall posetive story!

Tried Just Cars about a month ago regarding my Brumby, No accidents or claims in the past 25 years, got engineers cert, gold licence, not even a parking ticket, still waiting in their reply.
l assume this means No.

shannons should do 3rd party.

Another thing with shannons you get a few peice of glass if need be every 12months no questions asked, no points lost etc. Something to thing about you wagon lib guys. A gen 2 rear glass is $600+ secondhand and over $1000 for brand new.
