Is the box with liberty internals the same size as a normal L series? i.e. would it need a custom driveshaft? Does it have the same CV cup requirements ?
What else can you tell me about it.

hey, yes it does need a shortened tailshaft, the drive shafts are the same as the RX ones (the wider ones i think), The lib internals box also goes with a 3.9 open diff to suit it. I tried fitting the lib internals box to my RX, and the crossmember that came with it didnt look like it would fit anywhere - possibly suited to a my wagon or something??? Might need a plate welded to crossmember to mount the gearbox to aswell.
I was about to just take this to a gearbox specialist to get it all fitted up, and done properly.. however i am now selling my RX so i thought its not worth it putting this box in and losing a heap on it!
edit: lib internals gearbox also comes with liberty gear shift linkages/stick/knob and dual range cable/stick/knob.

So the lib internals box bolts up to an ej and uses its clutch aswell?
Would puttin this box in a burmby be pretty much the same conversion as just putting a plain 5 spd in, cept the 25 splined front tranny stubs?

this is an ea82 gearbox housing. Not sure how you go about bolting up an ea82 gearbox to an EJ... but it bolted straight up to my ea82t.

It will bolt to the ea82t as its still ea82... to get it on an EJ i think that you need an adaptor plate and this will do the trick.
I was talking to Subarino about this over the weekend. Have a look at his webshot account I am sure that he has pix on there about it. In addition to this I am sure that he will reply to this thread - Subarino?

Can you measure the length of it ? I'm wondering if it's a
bit longer than a standard EA82, maybe it'd be about the same as an
EA81 gearbox? meaning could use an ea81 tailshaft.

hey mate,
I did have the measurements written down somewhere, but i have no idea where i put them!! i'll have a look at work tomorrow. But off the top of my mind, i think its around about 100-150mm longer, around the 110 mark if my memory serves me correctly. It is definately longer though because of the extension housing. Good idea about the EA81 tailshaft though. Apparently auto ea82's, liberty and wrx tailshafts wont fit either (you could always ask around to find out for sure :P)
If i cant find the measurements lying around, i'll measure it again tomorrow, maybe get some pictures too.

ok, just went out and measured both gearboxes next to eachother.
Lib internals EA82 gearbox is 770mm long
compared to 700mm long for the L series EA82 awd gearbox i had lying around (which i assume is the typical EA82 box size...)
But basically its about 70mm longer due to the extension housing.
Also, some of the other bits of junk will be thrown out in the near future, so jump in with ANY offer!

Hmmm, that's still heaps shorter than an EA81. would definately need a custom tailshaft ... what about photos ?

From memory the L series box is about 130mm shorter than the MY box.

I have another party interested in the lib internals gearbox, who would like the gearbox sooner than later. Just letting you know incase the offer disappears on you
And not sure about the MY gearboxes. All i know is the lib internals gearbox has the larger output stub axles, and is also a longer gearbox (due to extension housing). Compared to the L series wagon single range AWD gearbox which was the shorter one, and which has the smaller output stub axles... Dont have the measurements of the RX turbo gearbox, as its currently in the car
