This is a bad comparison obviously as it's a totally different car but food for thought.

I can squeeze ~600 out of my RX if I try (EJ20 turbo) which is only an approximate figure. My odo is out due to several reasons but overall it's only slightly out.
- now running 4.1 final drive ratio (originally 3.7)
- now running RS turbo gearbox with different gear ratios
- now running larger 14" tyres

Come to think of it she's just about empty right now I'll take a photo...
Image

I rekon I could hit 600 with it....I'll try in the morning and post another photo :)
This is on the standard 55litre L series tank, using any old RON95 fuel and not particularly trying to take it easy, still boost up fairly often while I'm driving.
I always reset the trip meter every time I fill up to keep an eye on millage.

L series MPFI standard box/diff's and tyre diametre etc etc.

739km to 60 litres - did the drive from adelaide to central vic (woodend) on one tank :D

Car was lightly loaded and flogged everytime we passed a slow vehicle...

also, I think this is a bit of a chalk and cheese discussion - that said, I'm okay with it.

Cheers

bloody hell!

Never got close to those figures...ever!!

Worst was 125km on a full tank in the EA82T wagon in stinky hot conditions, high revs, low range down Beachport way in shell grit one year.

But we had some fun...

Speedo is run off the output side of the gearbox, gear ratios don't make a difference. But, the speedo's gear might be different (I doubt this because my 3.7 and 3.9 boxes both had the same speedo gear ratio).
Your diff ratio will change the speedo by 9.25%, so that is it will read faster then you are going. Depending on your tyre size, 215/75R14 tyres are about 18% over stock so you'd be looking at about 9% slow reading. In every 100km you'll read 91km on the odo. Of cause, every brands sizes differ, sometimes as much as half an inch OD for the extact same rated size. So without a tape measure you can't calculate how much out your speedo is.

Personally I don't like the "how many to a tank" measurement as it doesn't translate to other vehicles, or even different models. I always use l/100km. Easy to figure out using how much to a tank as well.
Doing the figures, my dads L series touring wagon would get 645km to a tank, and thats the 60l tank. But of cause, the tank isn't exactly 60l, I once put 62.something in it. But its running like crap with exhaust leaks and shit carby, so no wonder it only gets 9.3l/100km

Alex ur wagon should have a 55L tank surely? I've always been able to squeeze around 58L in all my L series, aren't they all the same?

actually don't mind me, from memory actually there might be a difference between the Touring Wagon models and others. And I guess my RX sedan has the larger tank too.

After I posted that photo of my dash the other day I got it to 587 before pulling into a servo and filling up, fitted 58litres in after a few clicks.
A few days later now and I managed to get 607kms out of it. She's pretty much bone dry now, stuttered slightly going around the bend just near my house :)

Ditto above - got near on exactly this when the engine died due to no petrol(had another 10 litres in the boot...teehee)

Needs a tune now as I am only getting to sydney and back on a tank(mind you I have been using the 91 RON stuff)

yeah, just normal economy for a Liberty RS turbo really. Maybe slightly better due to a couple of hundred kilos weight reduction being in an L series.
