ea82t blokes

Post by shuffbag » Sun Dec 07, 2008 4:30 pm

so i'm going to pick up a rx turbo,

previous own has said its done a head gasket.

is there anything that could lead to this happening?
also is the motor able to hold 9psi with no problems?

what else should i look for, its got a full lenght 3" exhaust.
any help would be good. i would like a quick fix as i will go the ej turbo option once funds permit.

If its just a head gasket, its an easy job to replace. If it overheated, it could also have cracked the head.

Overheating always results in a blown headgasket in EA82's

If you were gonna run 9 psi, id suggest installing an intercooler, a free flowing exhaust and aftermarket ECU before upping boost.

A 3" exhaust is simply overkill for an EA82T. A 2.25" turbo back exhaust will flow more air than an EA82T will ever put out.

I agree EA82T + heat = not good, never is.

If its blow the heads and they have not had the head/block shaved clean again expect the heads to blow again in the not to distant future.

Dito Gannon and the zort and I/C just do not go crazy with the boost and she’ll be alright.

When test driving watch the temp gauge. Does it have A/C? and single core rad? These engine like to be cool and A/C and single core rad may not offer enough air flow, this is more of an issue when pushed hard (but who gets an RX to drive round off boost). Can not hurt to inspect the quality of the turbo hoses while your under the bonnet (poor condition are more susceptible to leaking).

I would also make sure its got the disk rear end + the LSD and if you REALY care you can check for the “brobe” plate/engine number.

Other then this its just all the other usual L series bits/issues to look out for.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

no they haven't fixed it, it did a head gasket and rather than fix it he brought a wrx.

the boost is already set a 9psi, and the 3" exhuast is on it already. haven't checked under the hood/rear end yet i just had a breif look (i was told disk's and lsd).

"if you REALY care you can check for the “brobe” plate/engine number" can you explain what is the brobe? probily a stupid question that i would already know the answer to.

i've a mate who is a engine reconditioner so head work isn't a problem, i pick it up hopefully wednesday night, will post pic's

The BROBE is in the engine number and signifies a "genuine" Australian RX.
What does this mean well (very little now days) my RX project i suppose you could argue is not an actual RX as its an L series that has been converted to RX specs.

Isn't it in the chassis number?
I think the O is actually a 0 (a zero)

I've just had a look at my first series Aust delivered L RX Turbo and the body or VIN number is JF2AC5BR0BE607xxx .

The break down from my factory 87 WSM is as follows :

J: Asia , Japan
F: Fuji Heavy Industries and subaru
2: Multi purpose passenger vehicle (4WD) , 1 means pass vehicle 2WD
A: Car line
C: 4-door sedan
5: 1800cc engine 4WD
B: Annual minor modification code (87 WSM shows C as MY87 so B= MY86 ?)
R: Steering wheel position R= right hand drive
0: Dummy
B: Engine fuel supply system (B turbo , C carburettor , E Multi point FI)
E: Transmission E= 4WD 5MT Dual range , G= Full time 4WD MT

The six numerals represent the sequential build number , mine is very very early in the 607 thousands like with a single number - and a couple of 0's in front of it .

Night all , A .

for interest's sake mine is exactly the same as that except abit higher in the build number...
J
F
2
A
C
5
B
R
O
B
E
608xxx

The compliance plate says 8/86 and the "build date" plate say April 86.

Mine is an Aussie delivered RX, had no power steering or aircon.
