Some of you that came to the BYB BBQ last year may have noticed a red Brumby at the wreckers that had a whack in the front. Well we ended up buying it for me to do up as a work ute.

I had a quick look at it at the wreckers and thought it was a simple nose cut swap that was needed to get it straight and ready for the motor and kit. Well it was kinda bent a lot worse than I thought. The front was pushed in about 2 inches and also dragged down to the right hand lower side.

I got a tourer from Stinky for the front end transplant but we damaged it too badly dragging it up from behind his house. So I picked up another tourer locally, that was badly rusted in the doors and sills but the front end was good, for the grand some of $150. The motor and box in it are pretty good although I don't think I will be using the auto. May throw the motor and a dual range in to get it registered and drivable though.

I cut the front of the tourer just in front of the strut pillars and stitched it on to the brumby. It has come out pretty good by my own reckoning but it is some thing that I won't want to do again in a hurry. A lot of work and a lot of welding flash/burns.

The engine bay is all painted now in the BYB standard yellow. The flat bits on the under side of the bonnet are also yellow with the ribbing painted in Polka red. The guards and bonnet are painted Subaru Polka red too but thanks to the light sprinkle of rain just before they need to be lightly rubbed back and glossed over again.

Plans are for a 3.900 low ratio dual range box behind some sort of EJ turbo. Just not sure on size or amount of turbos yet. The bonnet scoop is going to be mounted "a-la GT Falcon". That is as a shaker with a shroud to raise the scoop to the right height to suit the lift kit.

I have got a GDB-STi mechanical LSD here that is going in the back. 3" kit and 14" Marquis with Khumo Mud terrains. The wheels and tyres are already on there waiting for something to turn them.

The wiring loom is going to be all Turbo Liberty so I can get rid of the wipers and lights from the dash and have them on the column. It will also match up to the Liberty column and dash a lot easier as well. The Liberty loom has better wiring for the lights which was also another reason to use it. As is the ease of fitting a turbo motor.

Total to date is $200 for the ute, $150 for the tourer, $160 for paint.

With a bit of luck and good timing it should be going in about 3 or 4 weeks.

Too late for the pics. Our digi camera died before the BYB BBQ last year and we haven't replaced it yet.

sounds like a good little car. no doubt it will fall into the 'overkill' category and have something extremely wicked done to it (like that vortex at stockton...EJ20G with RA ecu)

Another mod this arvo was the fitting of a Liberty steering column. I have put this in so I can get rid of the wiper and light control from the dash and put it on the column. Quite a bit of mucking around to get it to fit in the right spot. 3 hours of mucking around actually and that was only with one 15 minute bourbon break.

The tilt adjust works well and the wheel sits at a good height on the middle setting.. The length also worked out to be pretty close to standard position for the wheel.

I have cut the chassis ready for the EJ and fixed the broken bumper mounts at the same time. Radiator support mod is in progress. Just a bit of welding to be done and things can start to go back in.

Front cut should be here Friday for the ute. (Can't wait :D ) I fitted electric windows to the ute last night and then tinted them. The kit for the rear is here now and will go in this week some time (thanks Dave). Hopefully it should be driveable by this time next week.
