Hi all , I'd like to hear about peoples experiences with electronics in late model cars that have the potential to catch people out and trap them for no sane reason .

Subaru fall into this category and no doubt it has lots to do with theft and insurance mobs .

Case 1) A person I know owns a B4 and found out to his annoyance that if the battery fails totally - stone motherless dead or is removed for whatever reason idiot car loses some vital code and cannot be started even when a good battery is installed . Subaru wants you to tow/float the thing to a dealership to get it reset . What the hell are you supposed to do in the middle of nowhere ?

Case 2) MY00 STi . Car could not be started for some trivial reason and the heap of effluent had to be floated to a dealership for a 5 min and no doubt expensive reset ...

I'd like to know exactly what era Subaru started this lunacy in order not to buy a waste of time money and space .

I have been told about a lighter socket plug device with a 9v battery in it so idiot car doesn't completly power down its ECU/power control modules/coded radio or integral hair dryer and losing security codes .

Does this apply to 06+ Outbacks? Hope not.

Its nothing to do with the subaru, its all due to the piece of shit aftermarket alarm that subaru oz fitted to them. They are shockingly unreliable and have some incredibly annoying features, like the master code requirement. Rip the piece of crap out and enjoy the car the way subaru intended! But add a decent alarm to protect it. Best mod i have ever done to any car ever, seriously:p

I'm sure we'd all like to know about how to get around this crap , if it's as serious as I think it is then maybe we need the fix info before electronic BS kills someone .

I really do hope that Subaru workshop verify that whoever tows in the won't start situation is the owner of the car not some dirty thief. It is probably checked by the level of anger
