Probably one of the best executed 'big liofts' I've seen yet Postie, have often thought of using this method myself... At least then you can get the chassis itself engineered as a individually manufacturedvehicle - or use another chassis and modify within legal limits... Say a Rangie one..

But is it a lift or are they building a buggy?

me either. if you went to that much trouble why would you keep the stock suspension?

Don't like it, you'd probaly lose out on the advantage of being a lightweight and not gain anything in return, ie using stock suspension... probly only gaining real low range it he's using another transfer case...

I can see plenty of advantages.I would call it a good starting point for heaps of other modifications. When will subaru lovers get over the fear of thinking outside the square and using gear from other makes.

I am all for using gear from other makes! thats my point. WHy didnt he shove a live rear axle under the thing? With that chassis in place it wouldnt be hard to tack on some leaf springs

Or coil hats from something !!! Or you could just buy the landcruiser(or what ever) to start with

Still plenty of fun. Doesn't matter what the badge is

Opens up a whole new world of exciting bits and pieces.

This is mostly done so you can fit a second transfer case.. This gives you two low ranges (1.59 and a 2.2+) it also gives RWD/4WD. And because it still uses the standard suspension it still handles like a Subaru and really is still completely a Subaru.
Its a pretty common way of lifting past 6" in the US, although I haven't seen a picture of it all without the body...

I'm halfway there with the way I'm linking all the front end blocks together with the 6" L series. I've had ideas about putting some bars linking down to the rear too. Mainly to increase the rigidity and overall strength of the body. With much lift comes much flex unfortunately and I'm keen to put measures in place to prevent this happening before it's too late and my car snaps in half.

Haven't seen to many US ones finished so nicely.

I dont see the point either, I understand why he did it, basically it is a big and well braced liftkit, I dont think I would call it a chassis and it certainly doesnt look strong enough to be bolting live axles and leaf springs to, who wants leaf springs anyway?

Looking closer at it, I see he isn't running another front diff so it is just a lift and does not have a second transfer case... Which makes it all pointless.
Although, it would be piss easy to do a divorced tcase mod with that sub frame.
Lifting like that is all about gearing, obviously this guy missed the point, but there is a huge reason for doing a lift this big. Once you've taken a ride in my bro's 4runner with both 2.23:1 low gears in you'll know what Subaru's are missing.
Who says you need leaf springs for solid axles?
