dilema - whats it worth
Considering selling my car but not sure what it is worth, tried redbook.com.au but dont have an "my" series listing, It also has a few extras and don't know what value the extras puts on it.
The reason for selling is that the wife wants a new car which means I get the liberty wagon to lift!
So its an 1984 my wagon, no carpet, has ac, disc brakes all round, 13" sunnys and 14" sunnys, h4 headlight upgrade, tinted windows, body in fair condition, mechanically A1, 2 1/4 inch exhaust and 248 000k's and the biggy ... a detroit locker.
So any ideas what its worth with the locker and 14's and whats it worth without the locker and only 13's
and whats the locker worth by itself?

locker is $1000 all day long and guess the 14's have god tyres they would fect 500 or so.

Put it on the new vbay thingymobob.
I'll start the bidding at $1001.00
But to answer your dilema, I think you could only expect about 1500 bucks for a 24 year old MY. If you care to part it out you should get more but there's really only the 14"s, rear discs and that locker.
It won't effect the value of the locker, but what did you pay for it and how long ago?

You're getting rid of your trusty MY? I guess the good thing is that you have something to move onto.
As already said, you would get more money for the good bits being removed from your MY and sold separetly, with the MY sold in its original trim.
Hope the liberty serves you well. Why not stick the locker in that for a while to see how it goes?

Thanks for the comments, sometimes you just need a reality check.
I've had the car for about 7 years and the locker for about 3, would love to put a lift in the wagon and keep it as a "toy" and the liberty would be the daily driver. But at what point do you stop spending money on an old car?

I still dont see how that could cause a problem, regardless of having a locker in the rear or not the centre diff is still going to load up under corning due to the difference in tyre rotations from front to rear.because any time a detroit is driven its locked. thats how they work

The Detroit Locker and the Lock Right are an automatic locker that are always in operation. They work by leaving the diff locked and automatically unlocking it when required. Without getting technical, they work by transmitting drive equally to both wheels but allow a wheel to turn faster than driven speed, such as required when cornering. The ARB diff lock is operated by a switch when required and locks the diff completely. It does not allow any difference in wheel speed on the same axle. The advantage of the automatic lockers is that they allow one wheel to overspeed, thus allowing easier cornering. When fitted to the front diff, this allows steering control to be easily maintained whereas a locked diff tends to go straight ahead. Proponents of locking diffs point out that the diff can be turned off to allow steering control or that it should only be used when traction is so poor it makes no difference to steering. In practice, it is a definite advantage to maintain steering control. However, an automatic locker should not be fitted to the front diff of permanent four wheel drives as it has a noticable effect on steering when on reasonable traction surfaces. When a part-time 4WD is in 2WD there is no effect what so ever on the steering from an auto diff lock. A permanent 4WD’s only option for the front diff is an ARB locker.
The rear axle can have either an automatic locker or ARB locker regardless of being a permanent or part-time 4WD. The overspeed advantages of an automatic locker are minimal on a rear axle fitting as far as steering effect are concerned. The biggest difference is that an automatic locker is ALWAYS working whether in 2 or 4 wheel drive or on dirt or bitumen. In practice, this results in being able to go most places in 2WD whereas 4WD would have been required previously. It is still good practice however to use 4WD as soon as pratical when on dirt as it minimises the impact on the enviroment.

Have decided to keep the car a litle while longer as we can't really afford a new car.Any further advancements on this car being sold?
Will look at buying a cheap camper trailer to do some family camping. (rather do more camping than buy another car)
I think by the time I have finished with the car I will just part it out?
Locker, rear discs and 14" wheels are probably the only things to hold any value?
