import EA82, whats the diff?

I have an imported EA82 i was thinking about puting into my 93 wagon but realised there is something a little bit different. One thing is the (dunno the name of the thingy) the pipe that comes out from exhaust, as the manual descibes, air suction pipe, air goes from intake to exhaust gases leaving exhaust port during cold operation........ emissions stuff !... it's on the oposite side of the engine!!!

Another difference i found in the head and intake that is not in my manual. The import engine has a pipe from head to intake, a short 90 degree bend pipe, pulled it off and it's like charcaol inside the pipe. I have no idea what this is for? Has anyone got an import motor and know what this is for? I want to take it off and put a bolt in it to block it off and my intake won't take this pipe. I'm using my carby cos the import carby and air cleaner is a bit different aswell...different hoses and stuff!

Wow, never heard of these differences in emissions stuff from import engines - unless you got this from america maybe.

I've always thought that the emissions stuff was the same no matter where you got the engine from, just so long as it is from the same model year that you intend to drop it into.

Best thing you can do is take your inlet manifold off your current engine and fit it (+emissions stuff) to the import engine. Block off any holes you don't need on the import engine once your current manifold and emissions stuff is fitted.

Got any pics?

i'll have some pics soon, it's definately a jap import going by the stamp fitted to the motor. It's a buggar that the air suction pipe is on the wrong side of the motor although i'm sure i can get by without it, definately differences with emission stuff on air cleaner and slightly different carb. I want to find out what the pipe is from the head to the back of the inlet, i'll get some pics soon.

Go nuts like Austin Powers, but leave out the pics that you don't take of the engine... Don't forget to tell it that "you're an animal baby, YEAH!!!" ;)

here's some pics of the import engine with the hole from the head and pipe that goes to inlet and suction pipe that is on the opposite side of the motor.

I'd say that thing is the equilivant to the ERG valve we have on our EA82. Is there an ERG valve on the other side of the engine? You'll see it on your current engine, there'll be a vacuum hose leading to it and it bolts onto the inlet manifold.

If it has an ERG valve I'd get rid of the other stuff and plug the holes - not knowing what it is or for. If anyone knows what it does it would be a great help.
