Speedo Corrector - Speedo in Outback etc

Post by AlpineRaven » Fri May 30, 2008 11:45 pm

I am now on 2nd Speedo Corrector as it keeps blowing or becoming deflective, I am gonna try figure out why it doesnt work at all. Its all due the tyre size as I am running on outback's tyres.

Now question is - what is the difference between -

Liberty & Outback speedo drive on gearbox?
or its inside the gearbox in Liberty & Outback -> different number of teeths or sprocket inside the gearbox? or its behind the dash?

Just in theory of alternative instead of using speedo corrector.
Cheers

Its on the gear box little plastic gear they come in a variety of teeth numbers and vary in price from about 15 bucks to around 70 bucks, if you can count what you have, then work out the difference to what you need, and we should be able to find one to suit.
what percentage is it out by before the speedo corrector went in?

re the jaycar corrector....i've looked up the diagram of it,
can you say what links you have configured on it?
LK1 x or y
Lk2 slow/fast
LK3 x or y

i wonder, the output would have the car's builtin pull-up resistor to either 5v or 12v, even if it is 5v also, that 5v and the 5v in the corrector could have differing ground references, even if intermittent, it would cause an instant problem if Lk1 is Y....food for thought, i would put a diode/cap between where the diagram's Z points....you solder this thing yourself?handy with the multimeter and solder iron?

Not sure if this is applicable or not but I have a `99 Outback gearbox which originally had the sender for an electronic speedo system (no actual speedo "cable" so to speak). I took the sender out of the gearbox and plugged my L series speedo cable in and it worked fine :)
Obviously there are correct speed issues due to the gearbox being the wrong ratio for the car!

Sorry guys, I was runting last weekend about it...

the 2nd Jaycar speedo corrector doesn't seem to be working and will go thru the diagram, the 1st speedo corrector is blown - i think one of these diode has fired up as I cant test it. The new one - I think I might have placed wrong resister or something. If I can get the speedo gearset out from outback's gearbox then I am willing to do that to save headaches on speedo's issues.

thanks guys for helping out.
Cheers
