replacing rusted water ports on manifolds etc

I have a few of those rusted water pipe ports on an inlet manifold to replace.
I have seen brass barbed threaded fittings used and intend to try same, and fearing that only 1/8" taper threaded ends available (same as oil pressure switch thread) . Has anyone else replaced these port pipes with another method or thread?
I have been able to extract the pipe from the top of an old EA81 block and fit it to my rebuild but finding the inlet manifold pipes are more of a pressed in and stamped in place so they don't come out with heat - they snap off at a weak point
