Subi buggy conversion ?

Post by HolyMackerel » Sat May 17, 2008 1:08 pm

I have an early model MY 1800 wagon that is mechanically A1 but the body is rusty and as a result I have let the rego go.
I was looking to sell off the beast but as it still goes so well in the dirt/sand I am now thinking of converting it to a buggy.
Just wondering if anyone here on the forums know of a subi based conversion... by this I mean something like the vw fibreglass body kits.
The aim would be to strip all the panels/body and keep the drive train components and add a new buggy body kits.

I thought Rhinobuggies used to base their kits on subis but it now looks like they only do nissan patrols... any ideas ?

This is the one we made - WackyBug.

Done plenty of stripping things off but not really any adding of stuff just yet except for some box section to get some strength back into the body.
Also converted to EJ22 afterwards to give her a bit more poke.

She is getting a lift kit and way bigger tyres soon.

Give Rhinobuggies a call, they used to ( probably still do ) sell plans for suby buggies, they're awesome beasts.

Yeah the difference with the fiberglass vw is you just unbolt the floorpan from the body and bolt the new body on then you can get an adapter plate for the transaxle to put any subi motor in. Good advice is to listen to these guys and use what you've got.

No go on the rhino buggy option... looks like they have stopped ALL subi based buggies and are only rolling out the Nissan Patrol based models.
Anyone got a picture or any other info on the subi based buggies.

I need to work out if it is doable other wise the old beast will be heading off to the metal compactors.

Anyone ?
